Day 20: Jeremiah
19:1-15
This is what the Lord
Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Listen I am going to bring a disaster on
this place that will make the ears of everyone who hears of it tingle (Jeremiah
19:3, NIV)
I remember
thinking a few months back, why do we have to wait for things to get bad in
order for us to make a change and turn to God? Why wait for God to cause
something to happen to turn us off the wrong path and turn us back to Him? The
truth is we know what does not honor God and we know what the consequences are
in being disobedient so the question lies what are we waiting for to change it?
God kept telling Jeremiah to prophesy to Judah the destruction that was to come
due to their disobedience so it removed the excuse of not knowing that He was
not was pleased with their actions. We can’t read the bible and then act as
though we don’t know what honors God or what disobedience looks like to Him.
Furthermore, His word also clearly lays out what the consequences are for those
who continue in disobedience. Judah would come running back to God only once
disaster hit but not before. Although they had been warned of the destruction
to come they continued in their disobedience. What has God been urging you to
change or work on in your lifestyle? Don’t make the mistake of thinking that if
God wants you to change it, He will allow something to happen to make you turn
away from it and turn to Him. As we know in the last couple of chapters once
the people got to this point God had took His hand off of them and would no
longer listen to them. Take the opportunity now to make the necessary changes
to get back on track with God before He allows a disaster to strike in your
life that you do not want to be a part of.
