Day 21: Jeremiah
20:1-18
But if I say I will not mention His word or speak anymore in
His name,” His word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am
weary of holding it in, indeed I cannot (Jeremiah 20:9, NIV).
Are you
willing to serve and obey God at any cost? What I love about Jeremiah is that
as we read about God using him as a prophet we also get to see the realness of
how Jeremiah is handling the different adversity he is facing for sharing what
God has told him to. He cries out to God in frustration because he is doing
what God has told him to do but he is being beaten, mocked, and ridiculed for
the message that he brings. He tells God that when he shares the message of
destruction he is attacked by the people yet if he doesn’t share the message it
is like fire shut up in his bones and he just can’t keep it in. As I was
reading this I thought back to the first chapter when God tells Jeremiah that
the people will fight against him but they will not overcome him and it seems
like Jeremiah needed to be reminded of those very words as he is having a
moment where he is in his feelings just a little bit/ a lot. We also have a
tendency to forget what God’s word promises us when we start to face adversity.
We have to remember that in sharing Christ with people and sharing what God
places in our heart to speak, everyone will not like it. It may leave us
uncomfortable and they may even try to attack us but do not get weary in
obeying God and following through on His command to you. I long for the day
where the word of God is like fire shut up in our bones and that we cannot hold
it in any longer and that we will share it regardless of what we face.
Understand that in obeying God and being a mouthpiece for Him you will face
opposition but don’t give up and don’t get weary as God is fighting on your
behalf and He has promised that whoever fights against you will not overcome
you.
