Day 28: Jeremiah
27:1-22
“Do not listen to the
words of the prophets…I have not sent them, declares the Lord.. They are
prophesying lies in My Name (Jeremiah 27:14-15, NIV).
There
are multiple instances in this chapter where God tells Jeremiah to speak on the
false prophecies that have been going forth. It made me think of the importance
of having discernment in order to be able to tell when a person speaks a word
from God to you versus a word from their own flesh. There are a lot of people
who are more concerned with pleasing people than pleasing God so in return they
will say anything that is pleasing to the ear even if it is not true. You
should be weary of individuals that are always telling you everything good or
everything that you want to hear. Just like with the false prophets, a lot of
people don’t want to give you the “bad news” even though they know you need to
hear it for your benefit. The thing about love is that it requires a person to
speak some things to you that you may not want to hear but they will say it anyways
because they know it is for your good. People who truly love you and care about
you are more concerned with pushing you towards Christ than having you happy
with them all the time because they tell you everything that you want to hear.
The false prophets were making the people “happy” by feeding them lies about
what God would and would not do but ultimately they were leading these people
away from God and setting them up for a path of destruction. Ask God to show
you the hearts of people and allow Him to remove the people in your life that
are hindering you from growing in Him.
