Day 40 & 41: Jeremiah 39 & 40
But today I am freeing you from the chains on your wrists… (Jeremiah
40:4, NIV).
As I
was reading these chapters I began to think about whose report are you going to believe?
When we look at Jeremiah and all that he has gone through, it is evident that
God is still working on his behalf in spite of the different things and people
that have fought against him. While King Nebuchadnezzar is pretty much tearing
Jerusalem apart and even killing people, when it comes to Jeremiah he gives the
command to “take him and look after him; don’t harm him but do for him whatever
he asks.” What is so amazing is that people fail to obey God out of fear of
what people may say about them or do to them if they follow through with the
things that God tells them to; Jeremiah is evidence that when you obey God He will
take care of you! This take Romans 8:28 to a whole other level! Even the bad
that was meant to harm Jeremiah still worked out in his favor because he
remained obedient to God regardless of what was up against him. Furthermore in
being obedient, people even acknowledged God and that His word came to pass
(Jeremiah 40: 2-3). So I encourage you to ask yourself the question, whose
report will you choose to believe? It is easy to look at everything that is
wrong and to look at how the odds may be stacked up against you but if God made
a promise to you then it doesn’t matter what it may look like. Even when the
situation looks bad and it seems like you are about to be counted out, remind
yourself of what God said versus what your situation looks like. Whenever we do
anything for God there will always be opposition; we will always have the
choice to give up and play it safe or we can trust in God and know that He will
take care of us.
