Day 42: Jeremiah
41: 1-15
Ishmael son of Nethaniah and the ten men who were with him got up and
struck down Gedaliah son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, with the sword,
killing the one whom the king of Babylon had appointed as governor over
the land (Jeremiah 41:2, NIV).
In
chapter 40 we learned that Ishmael was going to assassinate Gedaliah and we see
this now taking place in chapter 41. The problem with this is that Gedaliah
also learned the plan of attack that was on his life yet he chose to ignore the
warning. It’s always easy to ignore the warnings that are not pleasing to our
ears but the reality is God will alert us to both the good and the bad. When we
choose to ignore or disbelieve the bad we leave ourselves open to attack and
unprepared. So often God will inform of us of a trap or a stumbling block that
has been set in place but we choose to act as though God never said it. The
truth is we believe the things that make us feel good and ignore the things
that don’t sound good to us. We oftentimes want to ignore warnings from people
and say that they are hating on us or that they have ill wishes for our life and
then we’re all ready to rebuke them. However, everyone is not a hater; some
people are actually telling you things for your good but you don’t want to
listen. Then we get mad when it happens and we’re upset with God like He didn’t
tell us that it would come to past. Take heed when people tell you things
especially when it comes to warnings. Definitely use discernment as everyone is
not qualified to speak over your life but don’t be so stubborn and hard headed
that you ignore the warning and regret it later.
